Your lover, my love

Imagine we both wandering
And laughing like cold fire,
Each sentence slipping softly
Past my lips into your ear

Imagine she the little girl
Who still dreams sweetly deep inside
Vague, specific wonders mixing
And sifting through her thoughts

Imagine he the little boy
Who still stands shyly, boldly by
Afraid and thrilled to bare himself
In the usual way

Imagine me your lover, my love
Five years, ten, and more beyond
Looking backward to this moment
Fiery, wonderful, thrilling, new

Imagine, thee, the summer nights
Whispering trance and memories
Of things that always were
And never after will be
