One Thing Gone Day 6: Smartphone
A little less than two years ago I jumped on the smartphone bandwagon. Now, I'm falling back off that wagon, as it were, and reverting to a basic dumb phone.
My first generation Motorola Droid has served me well, but it's more of a distraction than anything. Since I got my phone, I've gotten a new laptop and an iPad 2, plus a BlackBerry for work. One can only deal with so much connectivity: There's no reason I need a personal phone that does what all three of those things do.
It might be a little strange going back to a standard phone, but I'm sure I'll manage. Plus, I'm saving a few bucks — but only a few. Verizon has changed contract options since I last upgraded, and their lowest talk plan automatically includes texting for about $20 per month more than my current talk-only plan (with which I use Google Voice for texting). I suppose I'll need a texting plan now anyway, so whatever. My only solace is that contract options also have changed for smartphones, and if got a new smartphone contract I'd be paying an extra $30/month for data plans that are no longer unlimited. So, there's that.
Anyway, here's to my regression in communications technology!
