One Thing Gone Day 9: Pile of Clothes

Pile of Clothes

This may be a predictable one, but nevertheless here it is. I am getting rid of a bunch of clothes that either I no longer like or are too big for me. I'll be shipping them off to the thrift store.

There's no real back story here. We all buy clothes; we all get rid of older clothes. Yeah, nine days in and I guess I'm getting boring already. But December's almost here, and I'll need to step it up here in three-and-a-half weeks leading up to Christmas.

One Thing Gone Day 8: Various Kitchen Items

For some reason I seem intent on getting rid of multiple things at once. At this rate, I may run out of things to get rid of before I reach Christmas. Okay, not likely, but I am starting to have some reservations about getting rid of certain things — which perhaps is a good thing. The whole point of this exercise is to get rid of things I don't need anymore, not merely to get rid of things I don't want anymore.

One Thing Gone Day 7: Uniden cordless phones

Cordless Uniden phones

Okay, I missed a day, but I'll be posting two items today. The first is a set of cordless Uniden phones.

I haven't used these in a few years. They were nice when I lived in a two-story house. However, I have another phone that I use for work (as I work from home), and since I use my cell phone for personal calls, there's really no need for me to have a cordless phone in my apartment, let alone two of them.

Not sure how I am going to get rid of them. I might toss them up on eBay just to see what I get for them, but chances are they won't fetch much.

One Thing Gone Day 6: Smartphone

A little less than two years ago I jumped on the smartphone bandwagon. Now, I'm falling back off that wagon, as it were, and reverting to a basic dumb phone.

My first generation Motorola Droid has served me well, but it's more of a distraction than anything. Since I got my phone, I've gotten a new laptop and an iPad 2, plus a BlackBerry for work. One can only deal with so much connectivity: There's no reason I need a personal phone that does what all three of those things do.

One Thing Gone Day 4: Battlestar Galactica DVDs

I don't understand the obsession with sexy robots, but I have to say I like it. It's better than unsexy ones, especially if they are bent on killing you.

Battlestar Galactica was a good show. Right up until the last ten minutes or so. I mean, come on, seriously? Angelic beings? Retarded.

Ooops. Hope I didn't spoil it for you.

Seriously, for the four seasons it was on it captivated me as a sophisticated, if not quite brilliant, exploration of complex personal, social and political relationships. I'll probably watch it again someday.

One Thing Gone Day 3: Cool-Touch Griddle

Cool-Touch Griddle

Happy Thanksgiving! Today is all about food, so it seems appropriate that I should get rid of a food-related item, right?

I've had this griddle for quite a long time, but it has moved with me twice now and I haven't even taken it out of the box. I have been amassing a collection of high-quality cast-iron pans and other cooking apparatus, which are just so much nicer to use.

One Thing Gone Day 2: Instant Immersion Spanish 2.0

Instant Immersion v2.0

I bought this at a clearance rack somewhere — maybe at Borders when it was closing? Not sure, but anyway I fully intended to use it. Unfortunately, the Mac application included on the CDs is not compatible with newer versions of OSX, and I do not have a PC to install it on.

Not to worry, though: I'm not saying adios to learning Spanish. My good friend Dave gave me the Assimil Spanish book for my birthday.

I'm tossing this one up on eBay. If nobody buys, I'll send it off to the thrift store.
