It’s a sad day. Another Joss Whedon show is canceled. And while it’s not surprising, considering Fox put it in time out during November sweeps, it sure is upsetting.
There are a slough of commenters on various blogs saying things like, “At least they are going to air the whole second season.” Yes, there is that, at the very least. Which is to say, at least Fox isn’t being a complete and utter bastard, again. Not completely and utterly.
Okay, I’ll admit that I’m more upset about Fox canceling Joss than Fox canceling Dollhouse. At its best Dollhouse wasn’t ever as good as Firefly. Or Angel. Or any season after the first season of Buffy. It took a bit too long to build a compelling story arc, and then when the show finally crescendoed to a decent season one finale, season two opened with a lackluster “six months later” storyline that completely undercut the momentum. That we have nine more episodes to endure, knowing that the end is near, may not be much of a blessing.
That said, I’ll still watch it to the bitter end. And I’ll buy the second season DVD set when it comes out (I already have the first one). Because Joss rules. And hey, at least there’s another Dr. Horrible to look forward to.
