I still count TTWS among my favorite bands. In high school and college, I found their mix of thoughtful lyrics and catchy music stimulating. “Fall Down” is one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar, and I still play it today — here’s me singing it at an open mic in Oneida, NY at the beginning of last year.
I was excited, therefore, when the band released a cover version of Sam Phillips’ song “Doesn’t Feel Like Christmas.” The original is also quite good, but embedded in the TTWS cover is the hugely compelling (to me) suggestion that there is more yet to come from this awesome band. And the suggestion appears to be something closer to reality than speculation. Last year, they released a new hits album (All You Want) and they are allegedly working on a new studio album.
Thus, this song fills me with much hoping hopefulness. Especially the part that goes:
This time next year
I hope that you’ll be here with me
And by “you” I mean a brand-spanking-new TTWS album with a dozen or so excellent new songs.
