Sweet, unbifurcated sleep

I slept pretty darn good last night. Perhaps not long enough, but the sleep I got was deep. And, importantly, all at once.

I tend to be a “middle-of-the-night” insomniac (really, that’s an actual type, acronymized as MOTN), falling asleep early and then waking up a couple hours later ready to hit the night life. You know, browse the web, catch up on old TV shows, IM with friends in other countries, ponder the value of all the broken gold in my house – that sort of thing.

For the most part, I don’t really require a lot of sleep. I’ve always thought the recommendation of eight hours a night excessive; I get by fine for the most part on six to six-and-a-half. When I get it all at once. Wikipedia says this amount of sleep is okay, and even suggests (by way of pointing to various studies that I have not read) that slight insomnia is associated with longevity.

Still, regardless of the amount of sleep I get, when I’m awake at 4 a.m. all I’m thinking about is how the hell to get back to sleep because I’m damn tired. Reading Wikipedia articles about insomnia and other sleep disorders don’t seem to do the trick. Sometimes watching Stargate: SG-1 does, though.

Anyway, today’s pretty good so far. I didn’t wake up until 6:30-ish (after having fallen asleep near midnight), so my battery’s full and ready for the day. Hoo-rah!
